On November 14, 1981, a group of students with a new vision for their campus formed Tau Kappa Epsilon as the first fraternity at UCSD. On May 28, 1983, TKE’s international headquarters granted a charter to the group as Pi-Xi Chapter. The chapter thrived for more than two decades before facing serious turmoil.
In the fall quarter of 2005, Tau Kappa Epsilon at UCSD faced undeniable and challenging odds—the fraternity was on the verge of relinquishing life. In short, UCSD was on the edge of losing TKE from the campus forever through misfortunes and bad timings. Determined to demonstrate that true brotherhood can conquer the toughest of challenges, four brave men, the chapter’s alumni, and the candidates of fall 2005 accomplished just the opposite. They accomplished what many people believed to be unfeasible, bringing life back to the fraternity and the UCSD campus.
